Genetics, B.Sc. Major
The Genetics program at the University of Manitoba offers a comprehensive education in the field of genetics, covering topics such as molecular biology, evolutionary genetics, and human genetics.
Admission Requirements
To enter the Major Degree program in Genetics, a student must have completed at least 24 credit hours with a minimum DGPA of 2.00, and also obtained a minimum grade of "C+" in BIOL 1030 and CHEM 1110.
Program Requirements
The program requires the completion of 120 credit hours, including:
- 24-30 credit hours of coursework completed in the first year
- 3 credit hours from the Faculty of Arts
- 3 credit hour "W" course
- 3 credit hours of electives
- BIOL 2500, BIOL 2520, CHEM 2100, CHEM/MBIO 2700, CHEM/MBIO 2710, and CHEM 2720 in the second year
- BIOL 3500, MBIO 3410, PLNT 3140, BGEN 3022, and BGEN 3024 in the third and fourth years
- 30 credit hours from a list of optional courses, with a minimum of 15 credit hours at the 4000 level
Co-operative Education Option
A co-operative education option is available for Major students, which requires the completion of at least three 4-month co-op work terms.
Degree Requirements
To graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Major) in Genetics, a student must obtain passing grades on all courses, obtain a minimum DGPA of 2.00, and a minimum grade of C in all required and optional courses that contribute to the Major.
