Fellowship Details

The Winnipeg Spine Fellowship offers a comprehensive training experience for aspiring spine surgeons. As a fellow, you will gain hands-on experience by participating in over 200-300 spine surgeries each year. This will allow you to work on various spine conditions, including degenerative diseases, trauma, tumors, deformities, and pediatric cases.


In addition to surgical practice, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of clinical experiences. You will take part in spine oncology rounds with radiation oncology specialists and rotate through each spine surgeon's practice at the University of Manitoba.


Research is also an important aspect of the fellowship. You will be encouraged to complete at least one research project during your year, contributing to advancements in spine surgery.


With expert mentorship and diverse clinical and research opportunities, the Winnipeg Spine Fellowship is an invaluable program for those looking to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of spine surgery.


Admission and Application Requirements

Application Deadline

Applicants

You need to provide the following documents:


  • Completed application form
  • Letter of intent
  • Curriculum vitae/resumé
  • Three recent reference letters
  • Copy of certificate of specialty completion
  • Copy of medical degree
  • Copy of passport

International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

If you are an IMG, you must:


  • Be a medical doctor from a medical school listed in the FAIMER directory.
  • Submit ONE of the following documents:
    • IELTS Academic Version:
      • Taken within the last 24 months
      • Minimum score: 7.0 in each component (same sitting)
    • Occupational English Test – Medicine (OET-Medicine):
      • Minimum grade: B in each subset (same sitting)
    • CELPIP-General Test:
      • Minimum score: 9 in each skill (same sitting)

Additional Requirements

Applicants to this fellowship must also supply:


  • A short description (500 words) of a clinical research project that interests you
  • A log of any spine cases you have performed or participated in within the past year
