Master of Public Health [MPH]
The Master of Public Health programme seeks to produce specialists with a strong foundation in the broad field of Public Health, as well as adequate training and preparation to take up special functions as required in the specialty discipline of their own choice. The programme was started in 1973, and the first batch graduated in 1974.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

As a public health postgraduate, you will be prepared to work in a variety of fields, including:

Course Structure
The medium of instruction for this course is English, and candidates are required to complete their assignments, reports, tests, and examinations in English. The candidate will follow a program of in-house instruction in General Public Health.
The Master of Public Health programme comprises forty-two (42) credit hours, namely:
- Four (4) core courses, each of three (3) credits, totalling twelve (12) credits.
- One (1) core course that leads to one (1) Research Project of nine (9) credits.
- Five (5) specialisation courses, each of three (3) credits, totalling fifteen (15) credits.
- Three (3) elective courses, each of two (2) credits, totalling six (6) credits.

Language Requirement
A non-citizen candidate who obtained their degree from a university or institution of higher learning that does not use the English language as the medium of instruction for the degree is required to:
- Obtain a minimum score of 600 for paper-based total (PBT), a score of 250 for the computer-based total (CBT), or a score of 100 for the internet-based total (IBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
- Obtain a minimum score of band 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (academic).
If the applicant does not have the prescribed qualifications as above, the applicant may be considered for admission subject to passing any English language test recognized by the Senate before being allowed to register for the Master of Public Health program.
Entry Requirement
Entry qualifications to the Master of Public Health programme are as follows:
- The degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or an equivalent qualification approved by the Senate; or
- The degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery of the University; or
- The degree of Bachelor of Allied Health with a CGPA of at least 3.0; or
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a CGPA of at least 3.0; or
- An equivalent qualification approved by the Senate; and
- At least one (1) year of relevant health or clinical work experience after graduation; or
- The degree of Bachelor of Allied Health with a CGPA of 2.5 to 2.99; or
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a CGPA of 2.5 to 2.99; and
- At least two (2) years of relevant health or clinical work experience after graduation; and
- Passed the interview; or
- The degree of Bachelor of Allied Health with a CGPA of 2.0 to 2.49; or
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a CGPA of 2.0 to 2.4; and
- At least five (5) years of relevant health or clinical work experience after graduation; and
- Passed the interview.
Intake Session
There are two intake sessions per year: September/October intake and February/March intake.
