Introduction to the University Program

Basic Neurosurgical Skills Course
The Basic Neurosurgical Skills course is a comprehensive 2-day course that comprises didactic lectures and hands-on practical skill sessions. The focus is on common neurosurgical pathologies and basic procedural skills.
Course Content
The course content includes:
- Patient position
- Neuro Navigation
- Microscope setup
- Neuro Dissection
- Basic procedures, such as Burr holes, EVD, and Catheters
Facilitators
The course is facilitated by:

- Mr Jens Peters-Willke
- Mr Arvind Dubey
Cancellation Policy
The cancellation policy is as follows:
- Cancellations advised in writing 21 days prior to the course will be refunded in full.
- Cancellation due to illness, supported by a medical certificate, will be refunded in full.
- Cancellations received between 14 and 20 days prior to the commencement of the course will receive a 50% refund.
- A refund will not be granted to any registrant that cancels up to 13 days prior to the commencement of the course, or fails to attend.
- Full payment is required upon course registration.
- The Tasmanian School of Medicine reserves the right to reschedule planned short courses. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, all paid short course fees will be refunded.

Short Courses
The university offers a range of short courses, including the Basic Neurosurgical Skills course. The short courses are designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge in a specific area. The price for the Basic Neurosurgical Skills course is $1300 incl. GST, or $1200 incl. GST for early bird registrations. The course duration is 2 days, and it is delivered face-to-face. The course starts on 20 June 2026.
