Upon completing this unit, students will be able to:


  • Demonstrate sophisticated capability to use a range of electronic and/or on-line resources to successfully search and comprehend new and unknown words, kanji, and phrases.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of taught Kanji, vocabulary, and grammar points.
  • Demonstrate sophisticated writing and reading skills related to the content studied throughout the semester.
  • Research and demonstrate understanding of Japanese culture and Japanese social and cultural conventions underlying the learning material texts.
  • Construct an oral delivery around written material studied and researched during the semester.

Teaching

  • Teaching Pattern: Weekly recorded lecture (1 hour), Weekly tutorial (2 hours) for on-campus enrollment, and weekly recorded lecture (1 hour), weekly tutorial via zoom (2 hours) for off-campus enrollment.
  • Assessment: Language journal (5%), Language test (10%), Project presentations (20%), Language quizzes (25%), Final exam (40%).
