Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency

The Emergency Medicine (EM) post graduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency was established in 2015 with a strong emphasis on critical emergency care, as well as research and teaching. The primary practice site for the PGY2 in EM is the University of Colorado Hospital (UCHealth), the leading academic medical center in Colorado.

Program Overview

The program is uniquely designed to keep the EM pharmacy resident in the emergency department for at least 75% of the rotations. Upon completion of the program, the resident will be competent in emergency care pharmacy, teaching to all different disciplines that intersect with the emergency department, and designing and completing a research project suitable to begin a career with a strong emphasis in research. The program is incredibly flexible, and each year is designed to meet the individual needs of the resident.

Partnerships and Education

The program partners with the Denver Health Emergency Medicine physician residency to facilitate weekly education through case conferences and didactic education specific to emergency medicine. This weekly meeting preserves a full day for the resident to focus completely on learning and research.

Research Opportunities

The program has adopted the "flipped" model for research, which, combined with access to large cohorts of data and statisticians, allows the resident to have a full appreciation for the full research process. Research happens in a longitudinal fashion, and longitudinal time is protected for the resident to work on their project.

Current Resident

The current resident is Jordan Glasgow, PharmD, who was born and raised in Stone Mountain, GA. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia and continued his clinical pharmacy training at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, GA. Jordan's areas of interest include toxicology, neurologic disorders, and infectious diseases.

Program Director

The program director is Amelia Nelson, PharmD, BCCCP, BCEMP, who is the Pharmacist Supervisor – Emergency Medicine/Behavioral Health and PGY2 Emergency Medicine Residency Director.
