University College Cork Continuing Professional Development

The University College Cork (UCC) offers various Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules designed to provide interdisciplinary learning for professionals in the healthcare sector.


Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation

The Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation at UCC provides CPD modules in Older Person Rehabilitation, focusing on interdisciplinary learning for professionals from diverse backgrounds.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the CPD modules, candidates must:


  1. Hold a primary degree in a relevant healthcare discipline or equivalent academic qualification and professional experience, as approved by the Programme Team.
  2. Ideally, have at least one year's practical experience in their area of qualification post-registration.
  3. Complete an application form and provide evidence of current professional registration.

Available Modules

Students can take one or more modules (up to a maximum of 20 credits per year) from the following:


  • CG6005: Amputee and Prosthetic Rehabilitation (5 ECTS credits)
  • CG6009: Principles in Older Person Rehabilitation (10 ECTS credits)
  • CG6002: Stroke Rehabilitation (requires Garda Vetting clearance) (10 ECTS credits)
  • CG6006: Falls, Mobility and Movement Disorders (10 ECTS credits)
  • CG6012: Neuromuscular Disorder (10 ECTS credits)
  • IP5001: Holistic Approach to Palliative Care (5 ECTS credits)

Dementia Care

The CPD modules in Dementia Care are designed to provide students with interdisciplinary learning in cognition and dementia.


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the Dementia Care modules, candidates must:


  1. Hold a primary degree in a relevant healthcare discipline or equivalent academic qualification and professional experience, as approved by the course committee.
  2. Ideally, have at least one year's practical experience in their area of qualification post-registration.
  3. Complete an application form.

Available Modules

Students can take one or both of the following modules:


  • CG6015: Understanding Cognitive Disorders and Dementia (10 ECTS credits)
  • CG6016: Advanced Issues in Dementia Care (10 ECTS credits)
