University College Cork Language Centre

The University College Cork Language Centre offers a range of English language courses and programs for international students, including pre-sessional programs, general English, academic English, and more.

6-week Pre-sessional Programme

The 6-week pre-sessional program is designed for students who need to improve their English language skills before starting their academic program at UCC. The program is offered online or on-campus and includes 15 hours of guided self-study per week.

  • Delivery: Online or on-campus
  • Length: 6 weeks
  • Hours of study: 09:00 to 13:00 Monday to Friday + 15 hours guided self-study per week
  • Class Size: Maximum 15 students, minimum of 6 students
  • Age: 18 years +
  • Dates:
    • Online: 08 June - 17 July 2026
    • On-campus: 29 June - 07 August 2026
  • Programme Content/Assessment: The program includes continuously assessed tasks, an assessed written task, and a spoken presentation at the end of the program. There is also a final test of academic language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Attendance Requirement: 90% attendance is required to complete the program successfully.
  • Pass Mark:
    • For those students requiring 6.5 overall/6 Individual skills: 60% with 55% overall in all 4 skills
    • For those students requiring 6.5 overall/6.5 Individual skills: 60% with 60% overall in all 4 skills
    • For those requiring 7 overall/7 Individual skills: 70% with 70% overall in all 4 skills
• Student Support Workshop Series
  • The Language Centre offers a 'Student Support Workshop Series' as part of the pre-sessional program.
  • These workshops are designed to assist students throughout their pre-sessional course and help them transition to university life.
  • Topics include access to library services, assignment and presentation skills, and advice on finding accommodation.

  • Forward a copy of the UCC Conditional Offer Letter, a copy of your current English language certification (IELTS or equivalent), and the pre-sessional application form.
• Cost
  • The cost of the 6-week pre-sessional program is 2440.
