Program Overview

The Micro-credential: Omgevingsbemiddelaar program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex environmental issues. The program consists of 9 study points and is taught in Dutch.

Learning Objectives

The program aims to develop the following competencies in participants:


Scientific and Ethical Competencies

  1. Develop a creative and academic mindset focused on the general interest of urgent spatial transition.

Spatial Competencies

  1. Apply the conditions of the instrumentarium of different spatial reference frameworks in function of the development of a mediation strategy.

Sustainability Competencies

  1. Indicate the scientific reference frameworks for the assessment of spatial interventions and their impact on the climate and the living environment of humans, animals, and plants.
  2. Apply sustainability strategies to complex spatial issues.

Legal Competencies

  1. Indicate the administrative law contours within which public actors can engage, in particular: contracting with the government, public administration, and the conclusion of settlements.
  2. Situate the main obstacles in the permitting procedure.

Social Competencies

  1. Indicate the leading scientific reference frameworks around inclusion and the different participation formats and techniques for joint fact-finding.
  2. Apply the theory of mediation and negotiation in an environmental context.
  3. Develop a communication strategy and use empathetic and non-aggressive communication techniques.
  4. Use design methods as a connecting communication tool.

Professional Practice

  1. Connect the various competencies and develop a strategic professional attitude and approach.

Practical Information

  • The program starts on October 2, 2025, and lasts one semester.
  • Classes are held weekly, one half-day per week, from 15:00 to 19:00, on the Stadscampus.
  • The activities are clustered into one half-day lesson per week on campus (4 hours).
