University Program Information

The university program in question is the Fach‰rzt:innen-Ausbildung (Specialist Medical Training) at the Universit‰tsklinik f¸r Radioonkologie (University Clinic for Radiooncology).

Program Structure

The program is divided into three main parts:

  • Basisausbildung (9 Monate): The basic training period, which lasts for 9 months, is designed to provide knowledge, skills, and competencies in internal and surgical diseases.
    • 6 months can be spent on the clinic's own wards (14D and 14E) led by internists.
    • The 3-month surgical basic training is completed through rotation at a surgically active clinic of the AKH.
  • Sonderfach-Grundausbildung (36 Monate): The specialist basic training, which lasts for 36 months, aims to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for independent practice as a radiooncologist.
    • This includes indication and implementation of radiation treatments for various tumors, brachytherapy, and treatment of non-malignant diseases.
    • Knowledge acquisition is achieved through six-month rotations through all tumor groups of the department.
  • Sonderfach-Schwerpunktausbildung (27 Monate): The specialist advanced training, lasting 27 months, focuses on acquiring in-depth knowledge, skills, and competencies in clearly defined areas of the specialty.
    • Participants must complete two out of six available modules:
      • Palliative radiooncology and pain therapy
      • Radiooncological imaging
      • Radiotherapy with substances modifying radiation effects
      • Hadron therapy
      • Interventional radiotherapy (IORT, brachytherapy)
      • High-precision techniques

Program Details

  • At the beginning of the specialist training, a training plan is created for the basic training and the specialist basic training, providing each trainee with a concrete overview of the necessary rotations for the first nearly four years.
  • The selection of the two modules for the specialist advanced training is made in an employee interview during the basic training, based on the developing interests of the trainees and the clinical and organizational needs.
  • Dr. Stefan Konrad serves as the responsible training physician and mentor.

Faculty

  • Dr. Stefan Konrad, MBA, functions as the Oberarzt (Senior Physician) and coordinator for teaching and training, specializing in the group for mammacarcinoma and oligometastases.
