Introduction to Systematic Cultural Geography
This 5-credit course introduces students to the development and current core questions of cultural geography.

Course Description
The course covers cultural phenomena and their geographical examination, including economy, industry, politics, religion, urbanity, population, ethnicity, postcolonialism, languages, globalization, and popular culture.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing the course, students will be able to explain and interpret various areas of cultural geography and systematic research fields.
Implementation
The course includes 20 hours of lectures and a group assignment. The assignment involves examining empirical data using concrete cultural geographical problems. It includes creating a research plan, collecting empirical data, writing a report, and presenting the report in a seminar. Additionally, a written exam will be held based on the lectures. The final grade will be determined by the exam and the assignment (50/50).
Target Group
The course is intended for students of the Open University and other students of the University of Oulu. It is compulsory for all first-year students of the Geography degree program and is also suitable for students pursuing a minor in Geography.
