Bachelor of Allied Health (Physiotherapy)

Overview

This course equips students with essential skills to kickstart their career as physiotherapists, blending hands-on learning with theoretical knowledge. Students gain practical experience through placements with diverse service providers and communities, particularly in rural areas. Delivered at regional sites, the course offers a mix of face-to-face and online learning. The program aims to prepare students to become contemporary practitioners in physiotherapy, providing graduates with the knowledge and skills to be client-centered and culturally responsive in their practice.

Study Planner

A study planner helps students decide what topics to study and when, ensuring all requisites are met.


Program of Study Overview

To qualify for the Bachelor of Allied Health (Physiotherapy), a student must complete 144 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the program of study. Upon completion of 36, 72, or 108 units, a student may choose to exit with a Diploma of Allied Health Sciences, an Associate Degree in Allied Health Sciences, or a Bachelor of Allied Health Sciences, respectively, subject to meeting the program of study for that award.

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements. Special requirements include fulfilling pre-placement requirements to undertake compulsory placements.


Aims

This course aims to prepare students to become contemporary practitioners in physiotherapy, designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to:


  • Be client-centered and culturally responsive in their practice.
  • Work in an interprofessional team with a rural focus.
  • Be flexible, innovative, and a reflective and responsive critical thinker. Graduates will meet the entry-level competency standards for physiotherapy.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:


  1. Apply key theoretical and best practice approaches in physiotherapy.
  2. Integrate physiotherapy knowledge and skills to prevent, promote, and manage disorders across the lifespan in a range of environments.
  3. Partner and collaborate with key stakeholders to meet their needs in a culturally safe and responsive manner.
  4. Implement appropriate reflective and evidence-based professional and ethical physiotherapy practice.
  5. Advocate for, and empower individuals, families, and communities for health promotion and disease prevention.
  6. Implement interprofessional and innovative physiotherapy practice to optimize and enhance health and social care outcomes.
  7. Connect, collaborate, and communicate effectively with other professionals in providing safe, inclusive best practice health and social care.
  8. Be a reflective practitioner who can achieve ongoing professional development as a lifelong learner.

Student Progression Rules

Failure to complete the course within 8 consecutive years, or the award of a grade of Fail (F) in the same topic on more than one occasion, may constitute evidence of not meeting academic requirements for the purposes of the University's Student Progress Policy.


Professional Accreditation and Recognition

This course equips graduates to meet the entry-level competency standards specified by the Australian professional accrediting body, the Australian Physiotherapy Council, and be eligible for Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
