Introduction to the Institute for Public Health and Pflegeforschung (IPP)

The Institute for Public Health and Pflegeforschung (IPP) is part of the Faculty of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Bremen. The IPP is dedicated to research and teaching in the fields of public health and nursing science.

Structured Ph.D. Program in Health Sciences

The University of Bremen offers a structured Ph.D. program in Health Sciences, which is coordinated by the IPP. The program is designed for Ph.D. students from various disciplines, including health sciences, nursing science, psychology, and sports science. The program aims to provide a comprehensive education and training in health sciences research, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and networking.


Program Details

  • The program is led by a speaker team, consisting of Prof. Dr. Ansgar Gerhardus and Prof. Dr. Birte Berger-H—ger.
  • The program includes an introductory course, which covers topics such as the promotion process, expectations in the supervision relationship, and mental health during the Ph.D. phase.
  • The program is open to all Ph.D. students whose supervisors are members of the program.
  • Admission to the program is possible at any time, following consultation with the supervisors and approval by the speaker team.

Publications and Transfer

The IPP publishes various materials, including the IPPinfo newsletter, which provides information on current research projects, events, and news from the institute. The IPP also engages in knowledge transfer activities, such as workshops, conferences, and collaborations with practice, policy, and society.
