Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences
The online Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences degree program offers students different options to prepare them for advanced careers in multifaceted fields. All courses are taught by graduate faculty in Human Environmental Sciences. Select a concentration that best matches your academic and professional goals.
Concentrations
- Apparel Merchandising and Product Development: Provides opportunities for advanced study of learning both theoretical knowledge and applications in textiles, apparel production, and merchandising. Students are prepared for a career in both academia and the apparel industry with outstanding competencies in quality assurance, product development, retail buying, merchandising, store operations, and brand management.
- Gerontology: Prepares practitioners in the concepts of holistic aging in context. Coursework covers a strengths-based and person-centered approach, an understanding of ageism and the need for older adults to feel included, and the importance of linking theory and research to policies and practice.
- Note: Gerontology courses are offered through the IDEA consortium, which operates under a different tuition and fee structure from the U of A. The gerontology concentration is not eligible for in-state tuition.
- Human Development and Family Sciences: Prepares students for employment in a variety of roles across many human service fields such as childcare professionals, social service workers in child and family agencies, advocates for youth and adolescents, parent educators, crisis and support service providers, facilitators of adult adjustment, and Cooperative Extension specialists.
