Program Description
The graduate program in Human Genetics & Genomics offers interdisciplinary research opportunities with unique applications to regional genetic isolates and other populations. The program explores genetic and non-genetic determinants of health and diseases of global significance.
Research Areas
The faculty members have multi-disciplinary research expertise in areas such as:
- Cancer genetics
- Genetic epidemiology
- Gene mapping
- Medical genetics
- Population genetics
- Complex diseases
- Large-scale sequencing and omics analyses
- Animal models and development
- Bioinformatics
Program Structure
The program offers both MSc and PhD degree options, which are thesis-based. Students are required to complete:
- An advanced undergraduate course in genetics
- Genetics Seminar Series
- A minimum of two graduate-level courses (for MSc)
- A thesis based on original research PhD students may be recommended to take additional graduate-level courses if needed.
Courses Offered
The following graduate courses are offered by the Human Genetics & Genomics program:
- Human Molecular Genetics (MED 6393)
- Human Population Genetics (MED 6390)
- Applied Human Genetics (MED 6392)
- Cancer Genetics (MED 6394)
- Genetic Epidemiology (MED 6395)
- Selected Topics in Human Genetics (MED 6391)
Student Society
The Human Genetics Student Society (HGSS) is a student-run society that aims to support students and enhance their experiences. HGSS is active in community activities, providing excellent experiential learning opportunities for students.
