Master of Science (Geochemistry) Program
The Master of Science (Geochemistry) requires a minimum of 36 semester hours, including coursework and research credits.
Program Requirements
- Course work: 24.0 semester hours
- Research credits: 12.0 semester hours
- Total Semester Hours: 36.0
Course of Study
To ensure breadth of background, the course of study for the Master of Science (Geochemistry) must include:
- CHGC503: Introduction to Geochemistry (3.0 semester hours)
- CHGC504: Methods in Geochemistry (2.0 semester hours)
- Three of the following courses (3.0 semester hours each):
- CHGC509: Introduction to Aqueous Geochemistry
- GEOL513: Hydrothermal Geochemistry
- GEOL535: Litho Ore Forming Processes
- GEGN586: Numerical Modeling of Geochemical Systems
- GEOL512: Mineralogy and Crystal Chemistry
- CHGC514: Geochemistry Thermodynamics and Kinetics
- GEOL540: Isotope Geochemistry and Geochronology
Laboratory Course Requirements
In addition, all students must complete at least one laboratory course selected from the following (2.0 semester hours):
- GEGN530: Clay Characterization
- GEOL523: Reflected Light and Electron Microscopy
Thesis Requirements
Master of Science (Geochemistry) students must also complete an appropriate thesis, based upon original research they have conducted. A thesis proposal and course of study must be approved by the student's thesis committee before the student begins substantial work on the thesis research.
