Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) is a prominent fashion university in China, renowned for its rich history and distinctive educational approach. Established in 1959 as Beijing Textile Institute, it transitioned to Beijing Chemical Fiber Institute in 1961 and finally became Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in 1987. BIFT holds the distinction of being China's first public fashion university. In 1998, it came under the administration of Beijing Municipality. BIFT transitioned from a technical university to an art university in 2019 and was designated as a high-level, specialized university in 2020, aligning with Beijing's policy for classifying and developing its universities.
