Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies
The Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies (BSUS) is designed for individuals who wish to make a difference in their community. This undergraduate degree provides students with the conceptual knowledge and technical skills necessary to understand and analyze the physical, social, political, and economic environment of large and small urban communities.
About the Program
The BSUS at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) equips students with the skills and understanding to address many of the most pressing issues facing society today, which are often urban in nature. The curriculum offers a set of core classes that build a foundation in urban data analysis and community engagement. Due to the school's belief in a multi-disciplinary approach to learning, Urban Studies students develop a deeper grasp of specific aspects of the urban environment, including economic development, sustainability, governance, or data analytics. Students, faculty, and graduates work in public agencies and a wide range of community-based organizations in the Las Vegas metro region.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the undergraduate degree program in Urban Studies, a graduate will be able to:

- Produce analyses that demonstrate information literacy and numeracy.
- Communicate data needs and analyses to multiple audiences to support decision-making processes.

Requirements
Urban Studies (BS)
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Urban Studies is the degree for individuals desiring to make a difference in their community. The BSUS at UNLV is an undergraduate degree that provides students with the conceptual knowledge and technical skills they need to understand and analyze the physical, social, political, and economic environment of large and small urban communities.
Degree Requirements
The total credits required for the Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies degree is 120 credits.
General Education Requirements
- First-Year Seminar: 2-3 credits
- English Composition: 6 credits
- Second-Year Seminar: fulfilled by major requirements
- Constitutions: 4-6 credits
- Mathematics: 3 credits
- Distribution Requirement: 18-19 credits
- Humanities and Fine Arts: 9 credits
- Social Science: 0 credits (automatically satisfied by major requirement)
- Life and Physical Sciences and Analytical Thinking: 9-10 credits
- Multicultural and International:
- Multicultural: 1 course (3 credits)
- International: 1 course (3 credits)

Notes
- GSC 300 is a required course for all majors in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs.
- Must complete 42 upper-division (300-400 level) credits.
- Must complete 30 upper-division (300-400 level) credits at UNLV in residence.
- A maximum of four credits of PEX activity courses may apply to the Urban Affairs B.A. degree.
- URST 301 is a Milestone Experience course for Urban Studies B.S.
- URST 498 is a Culminating Experience course for Urban Studies B.S.
Modality
This program is available in both Fully Online and Blended formats. Students may select their preferred modality at the time of admission. Those who choose the fully online option are committing to complete their entire degree through online education and will be identified as fully online students in MyUNLV. If circumstances or preferences change after admission, students may request a change in modality through the official change of major process. Academic advisors are available to help students select the format that best supports their academic and personal goals and can assist with any changes needed.
