Introduction to VIT School of Law

The VIT School of Law (VITSOL) aims to impart quality legal education, teaching students the nuances of the legal profession and equipping them with the skills necessary for success. The school believes in continuous and active learning, combined with practical training, and offers a unique experience with a blend of quality education features.

  • LL.M in International Law and Development
  • LL.M in Intellectual Property Laws
  • LL.M in Corporate Laws

Eligibility

The minimum qualification for admission is a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks.


Selection Procedure

The selection of students is based solely on merit, determined by the All India Admission Test (AIAT) conducted by VIT Chennai Campus or equivalent tests like PG CLAT, AILET, or Delhi University LL.M Entrance Test.


AIAT Structure

  • Part I: Proficiency in English, General Knowledge, Analytical, Reasoning, and Aptitude to do research
  • Part II: Objective type questions covering all compulsory law subjects prescribed by the BCI for the undergraduate law program
  • Part III: Interview

Weightage of AIAT Parts

  • Part I: 40%
  • Part II: 40%
  • Interview: 20%

Course Details

  • The course on International Law and Development focuses on the horizontal and vertical development of international law, including treaties, trade, investment, dispute settlement, and contemporary issues like terrorism and climate change.
  • The Intellectual Property Law course provides in-depth knowledge of copyright, trademark, patents, design, and plant varieties, with optional papers on contemporary issues.
  • The Corporate Laws course exposes students to major areas of corporate law, including corporate finance, governance, mergers and acquisitions, and securities market laws.

Course Duration

The LL.M course is for one complete year, consisting of two semesters.


Course Structure

  • Foundation/Compulsory Papers (3 papers of three credits each)
  • Specialization Papers (4 papers of two credits each)
  • Optional Papers (2 papers of two credits each)
  • Dissertation (five credits)

Specialization Determination

The LL.M specialization is determined based on four specialization papers in which the candidates have qualified.
