CFP® – Income Tax Planning

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is a recognized standard for establishing professional credibility in the field of financial planning. The CFP Board-Registered Program at Florida Atlantic University is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to sit for the CFP Certification Examination.

Format

The program is offered in a blended-learning format, with classes held on Thursdays, either on campus or live virtual.

Date/Hours

The program runs from January 15 to March 26, 2026, with classes held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, for a total of 40 hours and 4.0 CEUs.

Sessions

The program consists of 10 sessions.

The program costs $800.

Curriculum Description

The CFP program provides an introduction to income tax planning, including topics such as:

• Basic income tax fundamentals and calculations
• Taxation of investments and insurance products
• Tax considerations for education planning
• Tax reduction and management strategies
• Tax considerations for special circumstances
• Basic business entity taxation
• Taxation of property transactions
• Passive activity and at-risk rules
• Tax law compliance and procedures

Ideal Candidate

The program is designed for established finance practitioners, existing financial planners, or those preparing for a career in the financial services field. The program will help students prepare for the CFP Exam and earn the highly respected CFP marks, increasing their earning power as they advance in their career.

Specific Requirements

To qualify for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) credential, students must:

• Have a Bachelor's Degree
• Have 3 years of full-time experience in the field of Finance
• Complete a CFP curriculum offered by a CFP Board-Registered Education Provider

Affiliation

Florida Atlantic University does not certify individuals to use the CFP marks. CFP certification is granted only by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience, and examination requirements.
