Introduction to the Four-Semester STEM MBA

The four-semester STEM MBA option at Binghamton University is designed for students with diverse backgrounds and professional experiences, providing them with the necessary skills to advance as leaders in the global business environment. This option is suitable for students without a business or accounting undergraduate degree, students who received an undergraduate degree in business or accounting but not from an AACSB accredited school, and students who received an undergraduate degree in business or accounting from an AACSB accredited school but more than five years ago.

Curriculum

The STEM MBA curriculum is designed to prepare students with the essential tools needed to be effective leaders in today's rapidly changing corporate, non-profit, and public sectors.


Year 1

Students build a strong foundation in essential business fundamentals, strengthening analytical and decision-making skills while collaborating in task-oriented teams.


Year 2

Studies become more individualized as students refine their interests. They can choose from a wide range of elective courses, including cross-disciplinary options and customized independent studies, and design interdisciplinary projects aligned with their career goals.

Internships

Four-semester MBA students are required to participate in a career-related internship prior to finishing the program, ensuring they graduate with the connections and experiences needed to help launch their career.


Concentrations

A minimum of four courses (sixteen credit hours) is required to complete a concentration. Concentrations are optional.


Admissions

Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, with a recommended application deadline of March 1st. Capacity for this program is limited.


Admission Requirements

  • Applicants are strongly recommended to apply by the March 1st deadline.
  • While GMAT and GRE scores are accepted, they are not required for admission.
  • Students admitted into this program typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Applicants with significant work experience and/or strong GMAT/GRE scores are also considered for admission.
  • A prerequisite Excel for Data Analytics Crash Course 1 (introductory) offered through Harpur Edge is required.
  • Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation, a personal statement, a current resume, and unofficial transcripts.
  • A $75 application fee is required.

Microsoft Excel Prerequisite

Excel proficiency is expected of all incoming students, including knowledge of tools such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and PivotCharts. Students must successfully complete Excel for Data Analytics Crash Course 1 (introductory) offered through Harpur Edge or obtain the Microsoft Excel certificate, Exam MO-211: Microsoft Excel Expert.


International Applicants

The four-semester STEM MBA option is the best fitting program for international applicants. International students should visit the International Graduate Students page for specific admissions requirements.
