Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology

The Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education is designed for individuals passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. The program combines academic training with extensive hands-on experience to equip students for a successful career in counseling, therapy, or related fields.


Program Overview

The program focuses on holistic approaches to mental health and the seamless integration of cutting-edge research with clinical skills. Students can choose from two concentrations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Research.


Concentrations

  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration: This concentration is designed to meet the requirements for those who desire to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). The program includes courses in counseling, assessment, diversity, and social justice issues, as well as a supervised practicum and internship.
  • Research Concentration: This concentration prepares students for a research-based career in counseling or for future doctoral work. The program includes advanced courses in research design and statistics, a supervised practicum, and a thesis.

Accreditation

The M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) for the period of August 2017 through August 2027.


Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program can secure employment in various settings, including community mental health centers, residential treatment centers, and private practice. Others successfully apply to doctoral programs in psychology.


Financial Aid

100% of admitted students receive some form of tuition assistance from the Morgridge College of Education. Eligible students may also qualify for federal and/or state financial aid through FAFSA.
