Introduction to the NanoX International MSc

The NanoX International Master of Nanoscale Science & Engineering is a program designed to train a new generation of scientists in the fields of nanoscience, nanotechnologies, and engineering at the nanoscale. Located at the world-renowned research and teaching center in Toulouse, this program introduces students to the various physics, chemistry, and material sciences that form groundbreaking nanoscience and engineering technologies.

Overview of the Program

  • Candidate's profile: The program is open to French, European, and international students who have completed 4 years of higher education in one of the fields of NanoX: physics, chemistry, or material science.
  • Teaching language: English is the teaching language of the program.
  • Duration of training: The program is 1 year full-time (MSc2 level in the European bachelor's master's doctorate system).
  • Training site: The program is located at the University of Toulouse, France.
  • Scholarships available: There are scholarships available for students.
  • Internship: The program includes a part-time in-lab immersion throughout the year.
  • Welcome Day: The welcome day for the program is September 11, 2026.

Training Program

The NanoX Master of Nanoscale Science & Engineering is designed to be a pre-thesis program, offering a unique combination of intensive hands-on courses and in-lab immersion. The program provides an interdisciplinary field of knowledge and skills, combining physics, chemistry, materials, and engineering, with an emphasis on students' hands-on experience.

Scholarships

  • Foreign students: French public institutes and the Erasmus+ programme offer a large number of scholarships for foreign students. NanoX also offers scholarships to talented foreign students, including travel expenses, tuition fees, and a monthly scholarship.
  • French students: Standard internship grants are available for French students.

Research Projects

The program offers research projects, and students can find internship offers on the dedicated page.

Job Opening

Most senior scientists earned a doctoral degree or a master's degree. A PhD is a 3-year work experience as a research assistant that may favor entering the high-tech job market after completing the PhD.

English Proficiency

For non-native English applicants, proof of English proficiency is required, which can be demonstrated through various exams such as TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, CAE/FCE, or a certificate from the institution stating that the medium of instruction has been English.

Tuition Fees

  • EU students: €243 per year at the master level.
  • Non-EU students: €243 per year for the 1-year Nanoscale Science and Engineering degree, due to an official decision by the University Paul Sabatier.

FAQ

  • The program combines physics, chemistry, materials science, theory, and experiments, and is designed for post-bachelor students with a good general science knowledge and know-how.
  • The low tuition fees in France do not imply a "third-rate" master program, as the French government subsidizes higher education, making the true cost of education the same as elsewhere in the world.
