Introduction to the Psychology Program
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Psychology program provides a challenging curriculum within a student-centered environment. Psychology majors explore the inner workings of personality, behavior, belief, motivation, influence, and actions.
Undergraduate Program
The undergraduate program offers a flexible course structure, allowing students to customize their curriculum and tailor their learning experience to their own educational interests. The program includes opportunities for research, using equipment such as EEGs, electro-physical measuring devices, and eye-tracking equipment, under the guidance of faculty mentors.
Specializations and Minors
The undergraduate program offers the following specializations and minors:
- Parent Training Specialization
- Senior Honors Program
- Psychology Minor: A great minor for many other majors, providing the same care and attention as the psychology major students.
- Neuroscience Minor: An interdisciplinary study that teaches understanding of the neural foundations of behavior, with participation in ongoing research in a lab required.
Accelerated Master's Program
High-achieving undergraduate students may take advantage of the accelerated MA program, enabling them to earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in only five years.
Graduate Options
The psychology program offers graduate work leading to M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, with a primary focus on doctoral training.
