Introduction to the International Camp on Communication and Computers (ICC)
The International Camp on Communication and Computers (ICC) is a unique opportunity for young people with visual impairments to discover the vast potential of information, communication, and assistive technologies. The camp aims to develop computer skills, facilitate conversations, and foster cultural understanding among participants from various countries.
Term and Location
The 2026 ICC will take place in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from August 20 to August 28, 2026, and is open to young people with visual impairments aged 16-21.
Camp Characteristics
The ICC focuses on utilizing information and communication technologies to facilitate access to information for the visually impaired. The camp introduces participants to the latest trends and methods of using these technologies for their future, including:
- Interaction and communication
- Studying at secondary schools and universities
- Better employment opportunities
- Enriching personal life and supporting independent living
Activities and Workshops
During the camp, participants will engage in various activities designed to help them decide on their future education and careers. They will be motivated to prepare thoroughly for starting their university studies or entering the job market. The camp also offers interesting leisure activities and excursions to the surrounding area, providing an opportunity to network, share experiences, and make friends with peers from other countries.
Participants will choose from approximately 20 workshops focusing on topics such as:
- Latest information and communication technologies (e.g., internet, music, voice input and output, games, programming)
- Social and presentation skills, daily living skills (self-care and mobility)
- Study abroad opportunities
- News in assistive technologies
- Mastering the start of university studies
- Job searching and supporting skills necessary for the job market
Language and Instructors
The official language of the camp is English, and a good command of spoken English is a prerequisite for participation and benefiting from the program. Instructors, who will also accompany participants during their stay, will lead the workshops. The instructor-to-participant ratio is approximately 1:3, including leisure activities.
Financial Costs
The participation fee is 560 Euros, and participants should also consider travel costs (estimated at 200 Euros).
Application Deadline
Preliminary interest should be expressed through a form by March 16, 2026.
National Organizer
The national organizer is the Center for Support of Students with Specific Needs, Comenius University, in Bratislava.
Venue
The camp will take place at the AKADEMIS Student Hotel, Ulica Marka Marojice 2b, 20000 Dubrovnik, Croatia.
History of the ICC
Over the past two decades, nearly 2000 young people from around the world and 1600 experts have participated in the ICC, which has been held in various European countries, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
