Introduction to APX

The APX (Advanced Placement eXams) is a national high school math and science ability test created by the College of Science, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and the Laser Application Technology Research Center. The test aims to help high school students understand their math and science abilities and identify areas for improvement.


Purpose of APX

The APX test was established to provide high school students with an opportunity to assess their math and science abilities, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and prepare for future academic pursuits.


Test Content

The APX test covers four subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. The test questions are designed by professors from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and are divided into four levels: initial, middle, middle-high, and high.


Eligibility

The APX test is open to all high school students in Taiwan. Students can choose to take one or more subjects, and each subject has a corresponding level of difficulty.


Test Dates and Locations

The APX test is held twice a year, during winter and summer breaks. The test locations are spread across 10 counties and cities in Taiwan, and students can choose their preferred test location when registering.


Registration and Fees

Students can register for the APX test online, and the registration fee varies depending on the level and number of subjects taken. Discounts are available for students who register for multiple subjects or participate in group registrations.


Benefits of Taking APX

Taking the APX test provides students with several benefits, including:

Certificate and Score Report

Students who take the APX test will receive a certificate of participation and a score report. The score report will show the student's scores for each subject and level, as well as their overall performance.


Scoring System

The APX test uses a scoring system that ranges from 0 to 100 for each subject. The scoring system is as follows:


  • Initial level: 0-100
  • Middle level: 0-100
  • Middle-high level: 0-100
  • High level: 0-140 (including 100 for high school level and 40 for university level)

Qualified Scores

The qualified scores for each level are as follows:


  • Initial level: 50 (math and physics), 60 (chemistry and biology)
  • Middle level: 50 (math and physics), 60 (chemistry and biology)
  • Middle-high level: 50 (math and physics), 60 (chemistry and biology)
  • High level: 50 (math and physics), 60 (chemistry and biology) for high school level, and 15 for university level

Awards and Recognition

Students who perform well on the APX test will receive awards and recognition, including gold, silver, and bronze medals. The awards are given to students who score in the top 1%, 1.01%-2%, and 2.01%-5% for each subject and level.
