Introduction to the Graduate School

The Graduate School at Kangwon National University offers a range of programs for students seeking to further their education. The school is committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares students for success in their chosen fields.


Majors

The Graduate School offers several majors, including:


  • Art Studies
  • Art Management
  • Global Business

Art Studies

The Art Studies major is an interdisciplinary field that combines literature, philosophy, psychology, aesthetics, art, sociology, cultural anthropology, religious studies, linguistics, business administration, and public administration. The major aims to explore research topics from an interdisciplinary perspective, building on the foundation of humanities research theory and methods.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Art Studies major includes:


  • Master's degree: 25 credits (required courses: thesis research, research ethics and thesis writing, Korean language 1 and 2)
  • Doctoral degree: 37 credits (required courses: thesis research, research ethics and thesis writing, Korean language 1 and 2)
  • Integrated degree: 61 credits (required courses: thesis research, research ethics and thesis writing, Korean language 1 and 2)

Graduation Requirements

To graduate, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Master's degree:
    • Complete 25 credits
    • Pass the qualification exam for thesis submission (including a foreign language exam)
    • Submit a thesis or replace it with an alternative method (e.g., publishing a paper, completing additional credits, or obtaining a patent)
  • Doctoral degree:
    • Complete 37 credits
    • Pass the qualification exam for thesis submission (including a foreign language exam)
    • Submit a doctoral dissertation (with at least one paper published in a KCI-level journal as the first author)

Language Requirements

Students must meet the following language requirements:


  • Master's degree: TOPIK level 2 or higher, or completion of the Korean language course at Kangwon National University
  • Doctoral degree: TOPIK level 3 or higher, or completion of the Korean language course at Kangwon National University

Tuition and Scholarships

The tuition fees for the Graduate School are as follows:


  • Master's degree: entrance fee (178,000 KRW), tuition fee 1 (398,000 KRW), tuition fee 2 (2,216,000 KRW), total (2,792,000 KRW)
  • Doctoral degree: entrance fee (178,000 KRW), tuition fee 1 (434,000 KRW), tuition fee 2 (3,514,000 KRW), total (4,126,000 KRW)

Scholarships are available for students, including:


  • New student scholarships: up to 50% of tuition fee 2 (C) for students with TOPIK level 4 or higher, or IELTS 6.5 or higher, or TOEFL 79 or higher
  • Current student scholarships: up to 30% of tuition fee 2 for students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the previous semester, or 4.0 or higher in the previous year, and who have completed at least 80% of the required credits.
