American Language Programs

The American Language Institute (ALI) offers various programs, including the MBA Prep program, designed for advanced students of English who want to prepare for graduate studies in business.

MBA Prep (MBAP) Program

The MBAP program is a two-semester program that welcomes advanced students of English (61 iBT or 5.5 IELTS, or completion of Level 4 of the IEP) who want to prepare for graduate studies in business. This program is ideal for:

• Preparing for a business-related graduate degree in the U.S.
• Advancing business and general academic English skills
• Working on admissions requirements for graduate programs
• Studying for the GMAT or GRE
• Succeeding in a university classroom with native English speakers

In this program, students will learn how to:

• Read and analyze business case studies and write case analyses
• Write business-related research papers
• Give academic presentations
• Take notes on advanced lectures
• Write a statement of purpose for a graduate school application
• Prepare for the GMAT or GRE

Language Requirement

The language requirement for the program is:

• iBT 61
• IELTS 5.5
• Completion of IEP Level 4
• OR undergraduate degree from an English-speaking institution

Institutional Partnerships

The ALI has institutional partnerships with:

• University of Redlands: Students who successfully complete two semesters of the MBAP program will be considered for preferred admission to the University of Redlands Graduate Business Programs.
• Virscend University: ALI students may waive the TOEFL or IELTS requirement of this college by successfully completing Level 4 of the IEP for admission to the BS program, and by completing the MBA Preparation Program or Level 6 of the IEP program for admission to the MBA program.

Curriculum

The MBA Preparation Program is a two-semester progression of coursework centered around core classes:

• Business Communication (9 hours per week; listening/speaking focus)
• Business Analysis (9 hours per week; reading/writing/vocabulary focus)

Each of the core classes covers two 7.5 week modules each semester:

• Management & Finance - Fall
• Marketing & Entrepreneurship - Spring

Additionally, first-semester students take:

• A full semester GMAT/GRE Prep class (4 hours per week)
• MBA Application Strategies class (3 hours per week)

Continuing students in their second semester take:

• MBAP core classes
• CSULB Open University class of their choosing
