Introduction to the Kumamoto University 2016 Summer Program

The Kumamoto University Global Education College has designed the Kumamoto University Summer Program to provide students from partner universities with a short-term stay in Japan. This program aims to give students an experience of Japanese life and culture, as well as an opportunity to study at Kumamoto University as an international student.

Program Details

• Duration and Dates:
  • English Course: July 20, 2016 (Wednesday) to July 28, 2016 (Thursday), 9 days
  • Japanese Course: July 28, 2016 (Thursday) to August 9, 2016 (Tuesday), 13 days
• Location: Kumamoto University and surrounding areas in Kumamoto Prefecture
• Eligibility:
  • Students enrolled at universities with which Kumamoto University has an exchange agreement and who have been recommended by their university
  • For the English Course, students must have an English proficiency level of IELTS 5 or higher (or equivalent)
  • For the Japanese Course, students must have a Japanese language proficiency level of N4 (or equivalent) or higher
  • Students who are interested in studying in Japan in the future
• Content:
  • Japanese language classes (for the Japanese Course only)
  • Lectures on Japanese culture and current issues
  • Japanese cultural experiences (e.g., kimono dressing, Japanese sweets making)
  • Field trips
  • A certificate of completion will be awarded to students who complete the program
• Participation Fee:
  • English Course: Ą60,000
  • Japanese Course: Ą80,000
  • Includes accommodation, breakfast, tuition, and field trip expenses
  • Additional costs for food, transportation to and from Kumamoto, and other expenses are not included
• Scholarship:
  • Participants in the Summer Program may be eligible for a JASSO scholarship of Ą80,000
  • Eligibility criteria include a GPA of 2.3 or higher and not receiving other scholarships of Ą80,000 or more for this program

Application Procedure

• The application deadline is May 6, 2016 (Friday)
• Applicants must submit an application form and a letter of recommendation from their university, along with a transcript and a copy of their passport

Language

• The English Course will be conducted entirely in English
• The Japanese Course will be conducted entirely in Japanese

Visa (Certificate of Eligibility)

• For participants from countries that require a visa, Kumamoto University will send the necessary documents after the selection process is complete. Participants must then apply for a visa at the Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country.
