Exercise Science Program

The Exercise Science program is a scientifically based program designed to prepare competent entry-level Exercise Science professionals in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains. The program offers a diversified curriculum that includes both introductory and advanced coursework, laboratory experiences, and the opportunity for practical application of knowledge through community and research-based experiences.


Program Overview

The Exercise Science program can also be used as pre-professional preparation for post-graduate study in exercise science or other health-related disciplines, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medical programs. The program is designed to prepare students for appropriate professional organization certifications.


Admission Requirements

Students may initially declare an "Interest" based major in this subject, but must still meet additional requirements to be formally accepted into the degree program. Applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average with a minimum grade of "C" in each required course for admission, including:


  • BIOL 2251: Human Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BIOL 2251L: Human Anatomy and Physiology I Lab
  • BIOL 2252: Human Anatomy and Physiology II
  • BIOL 2252L: Human Anatomy and Physiology II Lab
  • ENGL 1101: Composition I
  • ENGL 1102: Composition II
  • ES 2100: Physical Activity in Health and Disease

No more than two attempts per course will be allowed to earn the degree.


Recommended IMPACTS Courses

Students should take two four-hour laboratory sciences in the Natural Sciences. Students may choose from:


  • CHEM 1211/1211L
  • CHEM 1212/1212L
  • PHYS 1111/1111L
  • PHYS 1112/1112L
  • PHYS 2211/2211L
  • PHYS 2212/2212L
  • BIOL 1107/1107L
  • BIOL 1108/1108L

Degree Progression Requirements

Admitted students must earn a minimum grade of "C" or better in each required course within the Exercise Science curriculum, with only two attempts per course allowed to earn the degree.

The Exercise Science program offers Double Owl Pathways, including:


  • Exercise Science BS / Exercise Science MS
  • Exercise Science BS / Healthcare Management Informatics MS

Non-Degree Options

For students not majoring in Exercise Science, a non-degree option is available:


  • Nutritional Science Minor
