Youth Engineering and Technology Career Exploration Program

The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering is excited to offer a career exploration program in agricultural and biosystems and civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, as well as construction and concrete management.

Program Description

Participants will explore a variety of hands-on activities along with enrichment and social programs designed to assist students in preparing them for the next step in their intellectual, personal, and professional career development.

Goals and Opportunities

The goal of this program is to build understanding, interest, and enthusiasm for engineering and technology as a career. Activities are arranged to inspire young people to pursue careers that generate greater economic vitality and create a better quality of life.

• Hands-on learning and educational experiences
  • Exploring coding, electricity and electronics, robotics, and green energy, electrical engineering, and computer science
  • Exploring things that move through mechanical engineering
• Engineering design experiences
• Teamwork and leadership opportunities
• Interaction of engineering and technology as a career
• Exploration of other majors and career areas

Eligibility Criteria

• Entering grades nine to 12 (as of the school year)
• Interested in engineering, science, transportation, or technology

Cost

The cost of the camp will be broken down into two options:

• Option 1: $850 This covers room, meals, and activities
• Option 2: $350 This covers only the day classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Supporting STEM Grant

The STEM-1E Program is a scholarship program designed to provide financial support to South Dakota students (rising sixth-12th graders) who would like to attend a summer STEM-based sleepaway camp.

Program Dates

• Dates: June 14 through June 18

Sign-up

• The deadline to sign up for summer camp is April 15 and will accept the first 20 participants. If we do not get more than five participants, the camp will be canceled.
