Ibrahim Program

The Ibrahim and Queens College Student Leadership Program in the Middle East offers qualified undergraduate students a fully funded, four-week exploration of Saudi Arabia, Israel, the West Bank, Jordan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

Program Description

Students will meet with national, cultural, and religious leaders as well as grassroots activists and economic entrepreneurs—people who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to promoting tolerance and mutual understanding. Students also will meet with people who represent more challenging viewpoints. This on-the-ground experience will ultimately inform students' subsequent ideas and endeavors concerning this vital region.

Mission

To empower cross-cultural, interfaith networks of American student-scholar-activists with a nuanced understanding of the complexities of this strategically vital region. Students interact with a broad spectrum of Middle Eastern cultures and perspectives, particularly in the fields of religious understanding, social entrepreneurialism, and conflict transformation.

Program Details

  • The program runs from mid-May to mid-June.
  • Applications are accepted until March 1.
  • A late recommendation letter will not disqualify an applicant.
  • The program is open to undergraduate students with a strong academic record, leadership skills, and an interest in the Middle East.

Testimonials

Students have described their experience with the program as a "really exciting feeling" and "a little bit nerve-wracking" at the same time. They have also mentioned that it's not just about politics, but also about appreciation and fun.

Program Staff

  • Professor Mark Rosenblum: Director
  • Nashwa El-Sayed: Research Fellow and Assistant Manager

Program Goals

The program aims to provide students with a nuanced understanding of the complexities of the Middle East region, and to empower them to become leaders in promoting tolerance and mutual understanding.
