Introduction to the Dual Degree Bachelor of Laws Program

The Dual Degree Bachelor of Laws program is a collaborative effort between Altnba University and the University of Cologne, established to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both Turkish and German legal systems. This program, accredited by the Accreditation Agency in Germany in 2013, enables graduates to respond effectively to the needs of the global world by leveraging the strengths and synergies of the two legal systems.

Purpose of the Program

The primary objective of this program is to integrate Turkish and German legal education, fostering a deep understanding of the legal systems in both countries. By doing so, it aims to prepare solution-oriented individuals who can work effectively in the international arena, equipped with the notion of universal law. The program also seeks to nourish the socio-cultural richness of both countries and the traditions of the two universities.

Structure of the Program

Students accepted into the program will spend the first two years of their education at the University of Cologne and the last two years at Altnba University. Upon successful completion, they will be awarded a Bachelor of Laws degree from both institutions. This dual degree program does not require equivalence, and graduates will be eligible to practice law in Turkey if they meet the admission requirements.

Diplomas and Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program will receive the "Bachelor of Law" degree from Altnba University and the "Bachelor of Law" (LL.B.) degree from the University of Cologne. The LL.B. diploma grade will constitute 30% of the First Law State Examination (Erstes Juristisches Staatsexamen) in Germany, facilitating their professional career in Germany. Additionally, students can obtain a certificate by participating in the Certificate Program in United States Law (CUSL-Certificate United States Law), provided they speak English.

Fees and Scholarships

The annual fee for the 2020/2021 academic year is specified, with options for 100% and 50% scholarships. Students are obliged to pay the tuition fee to Altnba University every year, including the preparatory class, with no additional tuition fee paid to the University of Cologne. However, students pay a semester fee to the University of Cologne, which grants them free access to public transportation and university services within the state borders.

Scholarship Opportunities

• Students are placed with at least 50% scholarship according to their OSYM score.
  • An additional 25% scholarship is given to students with a German language certificate at the level of B2.2 (DaF-Universitaet zu Kn), DSH 2 and above, or Test-DaF 4 and above during the first registration.
• Scholarships from various institutions and organizations, such as DAAD, are available to cover living expenses in Germany.
