Introduction to Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC)

The Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC) is a 9-unit course taught over 3 trimesters, designed for students who require three teaching periods to complete their studies. This course is suitable for students who do not have the desired high school results to gain entry to their chosen bachelor's degree, want to change their degree stream, or need additional English language support.

Overview

The MUPC features an additional English language unit for students who need extra support. Upon successful completion of the MUPC, students gain entry to the first year of any undergraduate degree at Murdoch University, except for Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Education.

Students need to complete 3 English units and 6 discipline units, depending on their desired bachelor's degree at Murdoch University.

  • Foundation of Academic English: Develops students' confidence and competence in using the English language, understanding how different text-types are constructed for academic purposes and audiences, and key academic literacies.
  • Essential Australian Studies: Develops English language skills and study skills to successfully transition into tertiary study in Australia.
  • Introduction to Academic Communication: Enables students to develop oral and written skills required for tertiary level studies.

Discipline Units

  • Introductory Mathematics: Equips students with knowledge of mathematical concepts and tools to foster problem-solving skills.
  • Mathematics for Science: Prepares students for tertiary-level mathematics and develops skills with calculations and problem-solving required for Science and Engineering studies.
  • Information Technology for Academic Studies: Develops written presentational skills using the Microsoft Office suite and explores the place of computers in society.
  • Computer Science: Examines key concepts and develops practical and theoretical skills in the field of Computer Science.
  • Physics: Provides an overview of fundamental principles of Physics, including motion, force, energy, waves, and electromagnetic radiation.
  • Chemistry: Develops an understanding of basic concepts of Chemistry required for tertiary level studies in Science and Engineering.
  • Biology: Provides an overview of basic biological concepts, both anatomical and physiological, and develops oral, written, and laboratory skills.
  • Introduction to Media: Develops life skills to analyze forms of communication and enables students to discover, investigate, and create individual media products.
  • Media Production: Practices digital media technologies to engage with current media and adapt to the changing media landscape.
  • Accounting: Covers the recording of business events and the preparation of important accounting reports.
  • Management: Gives an awareness of the role of management within various types of businesses and provides an overview of influencing factors.
  • Economics: Introduces the world of economics, including the vital role of economics in the functioning and wellbeing of societies.
