College of Alameda Programs

The College of Alameda offers various programs to cater to the diverse needs of its students. One such program is the Concurrent Enrollment program.

Concurrent Enrollment

The Concurrent Enrollment program allows high school or pre-high school students to enroll at the College of Alameda as special part-time students, in accordance with California Education Code. To be eligible for this program, students must have their principal's recommendation, parental consent, and approval from the College of Alameda.

Key Points about Dual Enrollment

• For concurrent enrollment students and non-CCAP (College and Career Access Pathways) dual enrollment students, the summer maximum is 9 units, and during fall and spring, it is 11 units.
• For CCAP dual enrollment students, the limit in fall/spring is 15 units, and for the summer, it is 9 units. CCAP dual enrollment students can only enroll in courses listed in the CCAP agreement.
• High school students are excused from paying tuition and fees for up to 15 units of approved coursework per semester.
• All courses taken from the college will appear on the student's permanent college transcript, and students may also receive high school credit for these courses.
• Dual Enrollment is designed to help young people get an early start on their Career Technical Education and path to college graduation. It does not replace courses offered at the high school, and students may not take recreational courses under this program.

Steps to Dual Enrollment

1. Students should talk to their high school guidance counselor to choose a course that aligns with their educational and professional goals.
2. Students must apply to one of the Peralta colleges.
3. Students need to download and complete the High School Special Enrollment Form, which must be signed by a parent or guardian and a counselor at the high school.
4. Students should bring their high school transcript and a photo ID to the Admissions and Records office at the college.
5. Students must meet with a college counselor.
6. Finally, students register for classes.
