Physiotherapy Program

The Physiotherapy program at Curtin College is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve movement, reduce pain, and support healing in others. This program is currently not available to Australian students.

Program Overview

The program consists of two stages:

• Stage 1: 2-3 trimesters (8-12 months)
• Stage 2: 2 semesters (12 months)

Course Structure

The program leads to a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) (Honours), which is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and recognized by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Diploma of Health Sciences Units (Stage 1)

Students must complete the following core units and one elective unit with a Course Weighted Average of 65%:

Unit Details

Introductory Physiotherapy Practice (IPP1000S/HEAL1000)

• Credits: 25
• This unit introduces students to reflective practice, exploring the scope and limits of physiotherapeutic practice within the context of professional practice.
• Students learn to create therapeutic alliances through safe person-centered touch and communication.

Applied Anatomy (AA1005)

• Credits: 25
• This unit introduces students to the structure and function of the human body, emphasizing neurovascular and musculoskeletal systems.
• Anatomical terminology and foundational systems knowledge are explored to aid in identifying key anatomical landmarks.

Integrated Applied Anatomy (IAA1008/HUMB1008)

• Credits: 25
• This unit allows students to integrate anatomical terminology and foundational systems with the understanding of functional human movement to inform clinical reasoning.
• Students engage in understanding neurovascular and musculoskeletal upper limb and trunk anatomy required for physiotherapeutic skills development.

Foundations of Physiotherapy Practice (FPP1000S/PHTY1001)

• Credits: 25
• This unit aims to develop student physiotherapists' professionalism, agency, and identity within an inter-professional setting.
• Students apply professional skills and problem-solving within varied settings, adapting communication and clinical reasoning for individuals with pain and inflammation.

Career Outcomes

Upon completing the Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) (Honours), graduates become qualified physiotherapists who can provide hands-on treatment and create exercise and health management strategies. Career paths include physiotherapist roles in various healthcare settings.
