The Senior Year at BASIS Independent Schools

The Senior Year at BASIS Independent Schools is a unique and transformative experience that bridges the gap between traditional classroom learning and applying knowledge in real-world contexts. By the final year, most students have completed their Advanced Placement (AP) courses and graduation requirements, allowing them to focus on the culmination of their educational experience.

College Counseling

BASIS Independent students take a daily class dedicated to college counseling throughout their senior year. The focus is on helping seniors identify, target, and gain admission to the best-suited college or university. Expert College Counselors work closely with students to explore their passions, career interests, and long-term goals, providing personal letters of recommendation and ongoing support during the application process.

Capstone Courses

Capstone courses are teacher-created, college-level courses that offer students the opportunity to explore a topic in depth. These courses transition students from classroom-style learning to seminar-based or lab-based learning, typical of college courses. Past Capstone courses have included Neuroscience, Multivariable Vector Calculus, The Biology of Cancer, and Post-Colonial Literature.

The Senior Project

The Senior Project is an independent, student-led culmination of the high school experience. Seniors spend the last trimester of their high school career applying the skills and knowledge they have gained to develop a project that is insightful, academically rigorous, and professional in nature. Students design a research question, partner with internal and external advisors, and document and analyze their findings.
