Introduction to the Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program

The Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program at Ohio Dominican University is designed to prepare entry-level Anesthesiologist Assistants in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains. The program aims to equip students with critical skills, educational training, service opportunities, and diverse rotations to become well-qualified and certified anesthesiologist assistants.

Program Mission

The mission of the Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program is to educate and prepare entry-level Anesthesiologist Assistants in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains. The program embraces a holistic approach to excellence in academics, research, clinical practice, and community service.

The overall goals of the Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program are based on the program's mission statement, current and future healthcare requirements of the Anesthesiologist Assistant profession, and curricular guidelines and competencies for the Anesthesiologist Assistant profession.

Accreditation

The Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program at Ohio Dominican University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Committee for the Anesthesiologist Assistant (ARC-AA).

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the program, applicants must:

• Earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 overall and science GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Complete prerequisite coursework, including:
  • Inorganic/General Chemistry with Lab (4 semester credit hours)
  • Organic Chemistry with Lab (3 semester credit hours)
  • Biochemistry (3 semester credit hours)
  • General Biology (6 semester credit hours)
  • Physics with Lab (6 semester credit hours)
  • Calculus (3 semester credit hours)
  • Statistics (3 semester credit hours)
• Complete at least eight hours of shadowing an anesthesia professional with documentation and anesthesia professional signature
• Submit GRE and/or MCAT scores
• Provide three letters of recommendation
• Complete a personal statement through the CASAA application
• Participate in an interview (by invitation only)

Curriculum

The program consists of two years of study, with the first year focusing on didactic, laboratory, simulation lab, and clinical experience coursework in the basic and clinical sciences. The second year consists of clinical rotations and a transition to practice course.

Student Work Policy

Students are strongly discouraged from working during the program, as it can be academically rigorous and challenging.

Waiver of Courses and Academic Standing

Students may not waive any course within the AA Program curriculum, nor does the program allow advance standing.

Application and Cost

The approximate cost for the Anesthesiologist Assistant Studies Program is $111,516, including tuition, fees, and other expenses. The application deadline is November 1, 2023, and a $1,500 deposit is required to secure a seat in the cohort.

Minimum Technical Standards

Technical standards are defined as the attributes considered necessary for students to complete their education and training and subsequently enter clinical practice. These standards are prerequisites for entrance to, continuation within, and graduation from the Ohio Dominican University Anesthesiologist Assistant program.
