نظرة عامة على البرنامج

Chemical Engineering - M.S.

Chemical engineering is the practice of developing new materials and energy for the benefit of humankind. Chemical engineers design, develop and operate industrial processes. The M.S. in chemical engineering is available in either a fully online format or in person.

Why Choose a Chemical Engineering M.S. Degree?

Pursuing a master's in chemical engineering will advance your career in one of the highest-paying and in-demand fields around. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for chemical engineers is expected to grow by 14 percent – much faster than average – by 2031. What's more, Manhattan has a proven track record in getting students hired. The Chemical Engineering department reports that 90 percent of program graduates are hired within three months of graduation. Chemical engineers from the College have landed great jobs at Bristol Myers-Squibb, ExxonMobil, BP, and other leading multinational companies.

Program Details

  • Minimum Credit Hours: 30
  • Available 100% Online
  • Employed within 3 months of graduation: 90%
  • Average Salary for Chemical Engineers: $105,550

A Curriculum Designed for Hands-On Learning

For both the online and in-person learning options, all students in the chemical engineering graduate program can choose from the following areas of study:

  • M.S. Option in Principles and Processing of Novel Materials
  • M.S. Option in Consumer Products and Cosmetic Engineering
  • M.S. Option in Biopharmaceutical Engineering

In addition, many students in our program elect to customize their degree by conducting research that combines their passions and academic abilities. About 50% of graduates participate in research projects, with several students publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals and presenting their work at industry conferences. Those attending courses in person are eligible to apply for research and laboratory assistantships.

Discover Professional Opportunities

More than 90% of students who graduate from this chemical engineering master's program gain employment within three months of graduation. Many go on to work for Air Products, ExxonMobil, L'Oreal, Merck and other top companies. Chemical engineers go on to work in the following roles:

  • Cosmetic scientist or engineer
  • Supply chain engineer
  • Research and development scientist or engineer
  • Process engineer
  • Product launch manager

Find Learning That Matches Your Lifestyle

The chemical engineering master's program is available either fully online and entirely in person. Online learning is available during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. With in-person learning, small classes of 12-15 students allow professors to get to know each person while guiding them academically and professionally. Nearly all of our classes are offered in the evening or in the late afternoon to accommodate working professionals.

Join an Enthusiastic Community

At Manhattan College, there are many engineering student clubs and organizations to join, make friends, and learn more about chemical engineering and its networking opportunities. There is the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Engineers Without Borders (EWB), the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE), and the American Chemical Society. There is also the Society of Women Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the National Society of Black Engineers.

Build Valuable Skills

The Chemical Engineering graduate program will help you:

  • Develop your application and optimization skills
  • Complete a design project
  • Communicate effectively, both written and spoken
  • Hone skills specific to your intended field

Admission Requirements

Applicants to this program must have a bachelor's degree from an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc. There also needs to be an undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, though other factors may be considered. In the case of an applicant having an undergraduate degree in another engineering or STEM program, there may be a requirement to take prerequisite courses for admission. One letter of recommendation from an academic or professional source is a required document along with an application form and transcript.

Program Requirements

Courses are available during the fall, spring, and summer semesters with schedules that work with anyone already working full-time as this program is also offered 100% online.

Browse Department Faculty

Faculty in the chemical engineering master's program are world-renowned for their work in the many facets of chemical engineering. They have won multiple awards for their work and have managed many of Manhattan College's research projects, and have been involved in major projects around the U.S. This leaves this program's students with the best guidance in the country and the mentoring they will need to excel professionally.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I apply to the program with a science (chemistry or biology or biochemistry) Bachelor's degree?
