Program Overview

The M.A. Applied Behavior Analysis Online program allows students to obtain the education and certification needed to effectively meet diverse behavioral needs. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific field of study that relies on the principles of learning to deliver meaningful behavior change.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the program may hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline; however, a background in a related area is strongly encouraged. Common examples include psychology, special education, social work, or school psychology. While prior experience as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or BCaBA is certainly a plus, it's not required for admission. Individuals from both the United States and Canada are welcome to apply.


Program Curriculum

The online ABA program provides comprehensive coverage of concepts and principles of behavior analysis, single-subject research methods and designs, functional behavior analysis and other behavior assessment techniques, as well as professional and ethical issues in behavior analysis.


Career Outcomes

Candidates are prepared for careers as applied behavior analysts in accordance with the educational requirements set forth for professional practice as a licensed behavior analyst in the state of New York. Potential career paths include:

Program Structure

Candidates will further develop professional skills by completing a minimum of 250 hours of supervised experience in applied behavior analysis. The program prepares candidates to:


  • Effectively analyze and manage change in individual behavior from a systematic, data-driven approach
  • Examine how the environment and individual interact, and how that interaction impacts behavior
  • Teach new skills and behaviors to all populations, especially those with an autism spectrum disorder

Graduation Requirements

Students must maintain a B average in coursework and successfully complete a comprehensive examination and all practicum and internship placements. They must also pass all New York state certification exams.


Field Experience Requirement

All candidates are required to complete a minimum of 250 hours of supervised experience as part of the course EDU 758: Supervised Fieldwork in Applied Behavior Analysis.


Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for matriculated students, including Stafford Student Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, and TAP awards for New York state residents.
