Introduction to PBA Lead

The PBA Lead program is a unique initiative developed by the Center for Global Leadership (CGL) at Palm Beach Atlantic University. This program is designed to cultivate exceptional student leaders who are ready to meet the challenges of leading differently. It emphasizes biblical principles that help students lead with character and competence, offering an opportunity for students to develop a leadership strategy that follows the greatest leader, Jesus.

Program Overview

PBA Lead is a three-course academic program grounded in both contemporary leadership practices and biblical principles. The program inspires students to first lead themselves before leading others, helping them identify their leadership strengths, passions, and personality, and apply their learning to leadership opportunities on campus and in the community.

Eligibility

Eligible students must be incoming full-time freshmen with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must demonstrate leadership qualities or prior leadership experience and must be a committed, strong Christian who exemplifies Christian character. PBA Lead students may also participate in athletics, College of the Arts degrees, and ROTC, but student-athletes must receive permission from their coaches to participate.

Program Structure

PBA Lead is designed as a four-year developmental leadership program. For this reason, it is not recommended for transfer students or for incoming freshmen who already possess a significant number of college credits—60 credits or more—as entering the program with advanced standing may limit participation in key components and negatively impact the overall student experience.

Scholarship Details

• The scholarship is renewable upon meeting co-curricular expectations as determined by PBA Lead Staff and Student Development.
• Annual Scholarship Amount: $2,000.
• Applications are accepted until March 1st for the school year.

Co-Curricular Expectations

All PBA Lead students are expected to uphold the following requirements:

1. Complete three leadership (LOB) courses within the first three years.
2. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
3. Serve in a leadership position.
4. Attend Co-Curricular Events and Gatherings.

Program Years

Year One

During the first year, students in the program are expected to:

1. Complete the PBA Lead Foundations course (LOB 1013) on campus during the fall semester.
2. Attend the Lead Like Jesus Encounter Weekend (PBA Lead Conference).
3. Attend three Connect Week activities offered by PBA in the fall.
4. Participate in a PBA on-campus group/club of your choosing.
5. Attend the fall Student Leadership Fair and at least one Student Leadership Interest Meeting.
6. Participate in scheduled PBA Lead cohort gatherings or events.
7. Apply for an entry-level PBA campus leadership opportunity for year two.
8. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Year Two

During the second year, students in the program are expected to:

1. Complete the second PBA Lead course on campus when offered during the academic year.
2. Attend the annual Lead Like Jesus Encounter Weekend (PBA Lead Conference).
3. Serve in a PBA entry-level leadership position.
4. Participate in scheduled PBA Lead cohort gatherings or events.
5. Apply for a higher-level PBA campus leadership opportunity for year three.
6. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Year Three

During the third year, students in the program are expected to:

1. Complete the third PBA Lead course on campus when offered during the academic year.
2. Attend the annual Lead Like Jesus Encounter Weekend (PBA Lead Conference).
3. Continue serving in PBA campus and/or community leadership positions for year three.
4. Participate in scheduled PBA Lead cohort gatherings or events.
5. Maintain or apply for a high-level PBA campus leadership opportunity for year four.
6. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Year Four

During the fourth year, students in the program are expected to:

1. All three PBA Lead Courses must be completed prior to year four.
2. Attend the annual Lead Like Jesus Encounter Weekend (PBA Lead Conference).
3. Continue serving in high-level PBA campus and/or community leadership positions.
4. Mentor first-year PBA Lead students.
5. Participate in PBA Lead cohort gatherings or events.
6. Maintain a 3.0 GPA.
