Vermont Summer - Fly Fishing Camp
The Vermont Summer Fly Fishing Camp is an immersive adventure for those who have a love of the outdoors and moving waters—and for those who are ready to discover it.
Camp Details
- Dates: Session I: Sunday, July 12 - Friday, July 17, 2026
- Location: Vermont Academy
- Participants: Boarding campers ages 13-17

Camp Description
The camp will spend its first days learning the art and science of fly fishing, from fish behaviors to stream ecology, to the artistry needed to catch them. Mornings might begin at the tying bench, where students learn to tie classic trout and bass flies, and understand how insects, water, and fish behavior all connect. Afternoons are devoted to exploring local rivers and streams, wading through riffles, casting to rising trout, and gaining confidence with casting, reading water, and safely handling fish before releasing them back into the wild.
Camp Objectives
Beyond fishing, the camp will emphasize curiosity, independence, and stewardship. Campers will explore the ecology of Vermont's rivers, learn ethical angling practices, and nurture a deep respect for wild places. By the end of the week, campers will leave with new skills, lasting friendships, a box of flies they tied themselves, and a stronger connection to rivers that will stay with them long after the camp ends.
Meet the Instructor
Jamie has been teaching high-school students for 27 years, and teaching fly fishing for ten. He founded his school's fly-fishing club, which includes fly tying, casting, and water-reading skills. He believes that there is no species of fish that can't be tempted with a well-presented fly, and understands that the sport connects us not just with nature, but with ourselves.
