Dental Assistant Program

The Dental Assistant Program at Western Community College prepares students to perform the duties of a Certified Dental Assistant.


Program Overview

The program includes hands-on practice in patient care, radiology, and chairside procedures. Upon successful completion, students are eligible for the National Dental Assistant Examining Board (NDAEB) written exam and clinical practice evaluation.


Career Opportunities

Graduates can work as Certified Dental Assistants in various areas, including general dentistry, specialty dental offices, and dental departments in hospitals and public health settings. Other career opportunities include dental sales, dental manufacturing companies, dental laboratories, and education.


Admission Requirements

Applicants must have Grade 12 or equivalent or mature student status and meet language proficiency requirements.


Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:


  1. Option 1: Evidence of three years of full-time secondary education or two years of post-secondary education in the program's language of instruction in a country where the language of instruction is one of the principal languages.
  2. Option 2: Two years of full-time post-secondary education in the program's language of instruction in a country where the language of instruction is one of the principal languages.
  3. Option 3: Achievement of minimum scores on a recognized standardized language test, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or CAEL.
  4. Option 4: Mature student applicants who are 19 years or older and provide attestation of completing at least three years of full-time instruction in English in a country where English is one of the principal languages, and complete an Accuplacer English Assessment.

Program Duration and Fees

The program duration is 36 weeks full-time, with other scheduling options available. The tuition fee for domestic students is $15,250, and for international students, it is $20,450.
