Pre-Pharmacy Program

The Pre-Pharmacy Program at Westminster College is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in pharmacy. The program is offered in partnership with Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, allowing students to complete their undergraduate degree and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) in just seven years.

Program Overview

The Pre-Pharmacy Program is a 3+4 program, which means that students complete three years of undergraduate coursework at Westminster College and then begin their professional studies in pharmacy at Duquesne University in their fourth year. Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will earn a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or neuroscience from Westminster College and a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from Duquesne University.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Pre-Pharmacy Program, students must meet the following requirements:

• Earn a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
• Achieve a minimum 1130 Math + Verbal SAT or 24 ACT Composite
• Provide one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or guidance counselor
• Demonstrate evidence of leadership potential, community service, and involvement in co-curricular activities
• Declare a major in chemistry, biology, or neuroscience
• Indicate their interest in the program to their academic advisor

Program Requirements

While at Westminster College, students must:

• Complete the appropriate three-year undergraduate Pre-Pharmacy curriculum for their declared major
• Earn a minimum grade of "C" in all undergraduate courses
• Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 or better
• Apply to Duquesne University by January 15th of their junior year
• Participate in an interview process with the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy faculty
• Submit a letter of recommendation from the Westminster College Pre-Pharmacy Selection Committee
• Provide evidence of leadership potential and commitment to the pharmacy profession
