Pre-Dental Program

The Pre-Dental Program is a 3+4 program that allows students to spend three years at Westminster College in a natural science major, followed by four years at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

Program Overview

After successfully completing 125 total semester hours, students receive a B.S. degree in biology from Westminster College. After completing all seven years of the program, they receive a D.M.D. from Case Western Reserve University.

Admission Requirements

Students must apply for this program as high school seniors through Westminster College, and then Westminster will submit their application to Case Western for further consideration to the articulation. The number of seats reserved for this program is limited.

Requirements for Admission

• Students must satisfactorily complete the following criteria at Westminster, prior to enrollment at Case Western Reserve University:
  • Complete 90 semester hours of course work over 3 years
  • Maintain a GPA of at least 3.5
  • Take the DAT exam by January of their third year
  • Take the following pre-requisite courses:
    • Cell Biology and Genetics (BIO 201)
    • Organismal Biology and Ecology (BIO 202)
    • Biostatistics and Experimental Design (BIO 206)
    • Microbiology (BIO 301)
    • Molecular Genetics and Heredity (BIO 303)
    • Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 335)
    • Anatomy and Physiology II (BIO 336)
    • Principles of Chemistry (CHE 117)
    • Inorganic Chemistry (CHE 180)
    • Organic Chemistry I (CHE 261)
    • Organic Chemistry II (CHE 262)
    • Principles of Biochemistry (CHE 380)
    • Foundations of Physics I OR PHY 151 Principles of Physics I (PHY 141)
    • Foundations of Physics II OR PHY 152 Principles of Physics II (PHY 142)

Note

Students who are officially accepted into the Case Western portion of the program are exempt from BIO 601 and BIO 602 (Biology Capstone).

Additional Information

Test scores from the SAT or ACT exams are required for the application to Case Western Reserve University, though they are not required for the application to Westminster College.
