Introduction to the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Program

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program at Webster Vienna Private University is a comprehensive undergraduate degree that examines the human mind and behavior, providing students with a solid foundation for further studies and careers in the field of psychology.

Program Overview

The program is designed to provide students with a rigorous scholarly training that prepares them to carry out requisite levels of research and proceed into more advanced studies. Students undergo a comprehensive program of study that includes courses in biological and evolutionary perspectives, clinical and counseling perspectives, lifespan development, learning and cognitive perspectives, and social and cross-cultural perspectives.

Curriculum

The curriculum is organized into five modules and a thesis. The five modules include the Common Core Module, four discipline-specific Core Modules, a Discipline Enrichment Module, and a Free Electives Module. The program is concluded with the successful completion of a thesis.

Common Core Module

The Common Core Module includes courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Psychology and Ethics, and Senior Capstone: History, Philosophy, and Systems of Psychology.

Discipline Core Modules

The Discipline Core Modules include courses such as Introduction to Measurement and Statistics, Introduction to Research Methods, and courses in the five content areas: Biological and Evolutionary Perspectives, Clinical and Counseling Perspectives, Lifespan Development Perspectives, Learning and Cognitive Perspectives, and Social and Cross-Cultural Perspectives.

Discipline Enrichment Module

The Discipline Enrichment Module includes courses such as Psychology of Adjustment, Issues in Contemporary Psychology, and Topics in Sex and Gender.

Free Electives Module

Thesis

Program Requirements

To graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, students must complete all modules as stated in the Curriculum Overview and Workload, and in accordance with the following rules:

• Candidates must complete all modules (240 ECTS) as stated in section 3.1 Curriculum Overview.
• Students must successfully earn 138 ECTS in residence at WVPU, including all courses in the Common Core, all required courses in the Discipline Core Modules, and a bachelor thesis.

Admission

Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program follows the General Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Programs with the following additional restrictions:

• Transfer students can apply up to 36 ECTS of approved PSYC course work from other colleges/universities towards their degree.

Minor in Psychology

The Minor in Psychology is an 18-credit hour minor that is appropriate for students who are pursuing a career that has a significant connection to psychology and who wish to deepen their understanding of human behavior by exploring relevant psychological theories and concepts.
