Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children's education and care services in Australia. They are responsible for supporting children's wellbeing and development within an approved learning framework. Educators utilize a range of well-developed skills and knowledge while exercising discretion and judgment in alignment with established policies and procedures.

Early childhood educators may work independently or under the guidance of others in settings such as long day care centres, family day care, preschools, or kindergartens. To achieve this qualification, individuals must complete a minimum of 160 hours of work in a regulated children's education and care service in Australia as specified in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

  This program is delivered and assessed through a combination of classroom-based learning, simulated industry workplace activities, and supervised online study. Students are expected to complete approximately 10 hours per week of unsupervised study, including reading, research, and revision of previous lessons.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students must meet the following requirements:

• Be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
• May be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
• Have completed Australian Year 11 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
• Demonstrate an English level of IELTS 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5, or equivalent assessments.
• Possess basic digital literacy, including the ability to confidently use the internet and common software applications for learning purposes.
• Ability to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment and perform manual handling tasks.

Award Requirements

Students must complete all units in this course to receive the certificate of CHC30125 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Partial completion results in a Statement of Attainment for units deemed competent. Completion of work placement hours is mandatory for the attainment of this qualification.

Essential Information

Orientation to assist students is provided as an age-appropriate program. Attendance at orientation is mandatory before starting classes.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfer: Lead College recognizes qualifications issued by other Registered Training Organisations. RPL is available for skills and knowledge gained through work and life experience. Prospective students will receive guidance during the entry process regarding RPL possibilities.

Unique Student Identifier (USI) Requirement: A USI is required for all students enrolled in Nationally Recognised Training. Students will need to obtain a USI prior to enrolment.

Students who complete this course may pursue the CHC50125 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
