Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of support workers who carry out specialised tasks and functions in aged care services across residential, home, or community-based settings. These workers operate within established organisational guidelines, taking responsibility for their own performance and ensuring high-quality service delivery through the development, facilitation, and review of individualised care plans. In some cases, workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and take limited responsibility for the supervision and output quality of others within defined parameters.

Mode of Delivery

This program is delivered and assessed through a combination of classroom-based learning, simulated industry workplace activities, and supervised online study. Learners are also expected to complete approximately 10 hours per week of unsupervised study, including reading, research, and revision of previous lessons.

Entry Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
  • Prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
  • Must have completed Australian Year 11 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or higher qualification from an Australian institution.
  • Must demonstrate English proficiency at the IELTS level of 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent with recognized tests and certifications.
  • Must possess basic digital literacy, including the ability to confidently use the internet and common software applications for learning purposes.
  • Must be able to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment, including performing manual handling tasks.

Course Assessment Outline

To ensure a comprehensive evaluation of student knowledge and skill development, the following assessment methods will be utilized throughout the course:


Assessment Types

  • Written Questions or Report: Students will complete written assessments to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts, procedures, and industry standards relevant to the course content.
  • Practical Activity or Project: Learners will engage in hands-on activities or projects that simulate real-world tasks and challenges.
  • Case Study: Analysis of industry-relevant case studies will enable students to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Observation: Assessment through direct observation during practical sessions or workplace activities to evaluate competence and adherence to protocols.
  • Work Placement: Where applicable, learners will undertake supervised work placement to monitor and assess their performance.

Award Requirements

Students will need to successfully complete all units in this course to receive a certificate in CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support. Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent. Completion of work placement hours is mandatory for award eligibility.

Upon successful completion of CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support, students may progress to CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services.
