Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in community, home, or residential care settings who work under supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Graduates will follow individualised plans to provide person-centred support to individuals who may require assistance due to ageing, disability, or other circumstances.


Participants will be responsible for their own outputs within the scope of their job roles and delegations, applying a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge. Skills acquired must be executed in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice.


To achieve this qualification, candidates must complete at least 120 hours of work as specified in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.


Entry Requirements

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
  • Prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
  • Completion of Australian Year 11 or equivalent level of schooling, or a Certificate III or higher qualification from an Australian institution.
  • Demonstration of English proficiency at an IELTS level of 6.0 overall, with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent assessments.
  • Basic digital literacy, including proficiency in using the internet and common software applications for academic purposes.
  • Ability to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment and perform manual handling tasks.

Award Requirements

Candidates are entitled to the Certificate after successfully completing all units of the course. Those who partially complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units in which they are deemed competent.
