Biophysics Doctor of Philosophy

The Biophysics Graduate Program trains students to understand biological systems using the theories and methods of quantitative life science. More exactly, biophysics training involves using physics and its related sciences of physical chemistry, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science to research basic biological questions.

About the Program

Biophysics offers a flexible curriculum that can be tailored to a multitude of undergraduate majors. Students in our program actively participate in original research and develop fundamental knowledge in the following areas:

• Biochemistry
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics

The program enrolls students with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences, life sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Biophysics crosses 6 colleges and comprises 80 faculty in 33 departments.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

International graduates of this major are eligible, per the Department of Homeland Security, to apply for up to three years of work permission in the United States after graduation.
